Hey guys, this is part three of the city tour. Today, I'm going to be showing you Roswell's amazing park system. It's known in Atlanta that Roswell has amazing parks, but you got to see it. It's one of the best attributes the city of Roswell has. In 2017, it won the NRPA gold medal national award. It's a huge recognition for a park system and it has 22 public parks, over 900 acres, river access, green space, dog parks, playgrounds, sports complexes, gyms, pools, walking and hiking trails. It is amazing. Today, I'm going to show it to you. Let's go check it out. In part one of the city tour, I gave you a brief overview of the many parks along the Chattahoochee River. Today, I'm going to show you some of our other parks in the city of Roswell, but if you didn't see part one, definitely go and check that out.
Roswell Area Park
This park is the main public park offering the most amenities and is also walking distance to downtown. It's so nice to be able to go to the park and then walk to go out to eat or grab a drink at a brewery or wine bar. Some of the amenities of this park include art room, studio, baseball fields, fishing pond, a football and lacrosse fields, gymnastics and dance center, outdoor fitness equipment, picnic areas, a playground, recreation center with a full gym and basketball courts, a pool, tennis courts, and hiking and walking trails.
Waller Park, Grimes Bridge Park, and Vickery Creek
These parks are all connected and provide a huge space for sports and activities and long distance hikes in the woods or trail running. Some of the unique features of Grimes Bridge Park in particular is its Boche ball courts, pickleball courts, and an adult activity center with an indoor pool for citizens above 55.Waller Park is walkable from downtown and gives you access to the back side of Vickery Creek, which is my personal favorite place for hiking and trail running in the city. I will share my secrets of the best trails to hike in Roswell with the least amount of people. Vickery Creek is the best place in Roswell for long distance hikes on trails that are natural and similar to North Georgia mountain hiking.
Leita Thompson Memorial Park
Leita Thompson is unique for its paved gravel, long distance hiking and running trails with many hills, creeks, fishing pond, and a large field for open play or lounging on a blanket. Leita has the largest dog park in Roswell with two separate zones for large and small breed dogs for off leash play
Big Creek Park
Big Creek Park is a Woodland park offering mountain biking trails and multi-use paved trails. Big Creek has mountain biking trails for all skill levels from beginner to XC racer, looking for big dirt jumps or expert downhill trails. There is something for everyone. They also have pump tracks, which are perfect for kids of all ages. Big Creek has access to the Big Creek Greenway, which is a paved multi-use trail with two completed sections along Big Creek. The first section begins right here in Big Creek Park and currently runs eight miles up to Alpharetta.
East Roswell Park
Our last stop is a main park for the East Roswell residence offering similar amenities to Roswell area park. What makes this park unique is its free Frisbee golf course and access to the Seven Bridges Park for back and out type nature trails. I hope you enjoyed the city tour. I'm going to be making neighborhood tours, breaking out the different areas of Roswell that you can live and what those housing options look like. So stay tuned for those episodes. And I hope to see you next time.
