In this episode of Life in Roswell w/ The Ashman Brothers, realtors Matt and Jeremey meet with Kelly Henderson and Chris Rodgers at the brand new Building Kidz School. Building Kidz School is located on Woodstock Road just off of Hwy 92 in the Ashman's hometown of Roswell Georgia.
Tell Us About Building Kidz School
We're so excited to show you our school and thanks for stopping in today! We are Roswell's newest preschool and we've got a lot to offer, so I can't wait to show you around.
A Focus on Performing Arts
One of the key points of Building Kidz curriculum is our performing arts niche. All of our students from infants to preschool get performing arts lessons throughout the week. It's a really interactive fun class. Our lead performing arts teacher teaches them dance music and theater.
On-Site Kitchen and Sanitation Machine
We’ve got our kitchen here where we cook everything on site. This is our community calendar right here so any of the events that are going on are posted up here.
Here we have our Zono sanitation machine - this is where all of the toys the kids are touching (or putting in their mouths) goes in here every day. It kills all bacteria and things like norovirus or lice. We are basically trying to keep our center as clean as we possibly can. The machine has these nice toy racks, and all the toys just get laid right in here. It runs in about 30 minutes cycles and we just put in the next batch of stuff.
Infant Room & Car Seat Closet
This is our infinite room. This is one of my favorite rooms in the school. It’s just a light bright clean place for kids to safely interact with each other and get loved on throughout the day. Miss Judith is in here - she's our lead infant teacher. Always peaceful and calm.
One of the things that Kris and I were talking about when we were designing the build out of the space is that car seats take up a lot of room, but the same person's not always dropping or picking up their kid. So for a chance to kind of leave the car seats out of the room and create a space where it's easy to grab them and we created a car seat closet outside of the room.
Indoor & Outdoor Playgrounds with a Focus on Performing Arts
This is the infant play yard. It's also for our toddlers. It’s a nice space that is turfed all throughout. It has a little house and age-appropriate toys and it gives the kids an opportunity to play somewhere where they don't have to worry about bigger kids taking up their space.
Again we've got turf throughout this large play space here for our older children and we have a stage. So some of our performances have the opportunity to take place outside. Our performance we had in May took place on this outdoor stage over here.
The Performing Arts is a big part of the curriculum and it happens throughout the day whether they're in performing arts class or not the teachers are singing dancing moving around with the kids so they're never just sitting still, they're always interacting. Kids come out here twice a day. If the weather doesn't permit them to come outside and play, we designed an indoor play space. So if it's raining or it's too hot or too cold, they can still get outside of their classroom.
Inside the classroom it just looks like a mirror but when you're standing outside it's actually one-way glass. If parents want to come in and observe, we always have an open door policy. Families are always invited to come in and see how their kids got settled into the day or just see what they're up to.
I'm so glad you guys came in here to see the space. I know we've been talking to you guys throughout the renovation process and it's just so surreal that we're finally up and running serving the Roswell community.
How did Building Kidz School end up in Roswell?
I’ve been looking for a building for this preschool for two years and just as I was about to give up. Then through friends and family this building came up and it was kind of blank canvas, so we were able to really customize it and do what we wanted to with the space. We put the art space in the middle and it fit really well with the Roswell community. Roswell has a huge performing arts culture, and there's a ton of young families moving to town, so we said you know hey this is perfect. Let's grow around this and really build a community.
What's next for Building Kidz?
Other than our infants to preschoolers, there are summer camps. Also, starting in August, we're going to start offering an After School Program. The cool thing about After School is obviously will pick up from the local elementary schools, but we're going to offer performing arts for those afternoon students as well. We’re so excited about it!
