In this episode, we're going to to visit  Dana Gurela at Deep Roots Wine Market & Tasting Room,  right in the heart of Roswell off of Canton St, in the Plum Tree Village.

The way that the shop is laid out is from the lightest going from rosés, light white, heavier whites, Pinos, red blends, heavier cabs, and Zinfandels. All the wines have the option of a 1 ounce taste, a 3 ounce 1/2 glass, or 6 ounce full glass of each wine. We give we give our customers the rundown how to use the machines and then they're off and then they do their own tasting. It's fun because we're trying to show people that wine isn't intimidating. We don't want to be hovering over them telling them what to like or how to like it. We're here to guide them if they have questions but if they just want to read the shelf talkers that give them a little snippet about the wine they can do that and just taste at their leisure.

What Are The Price Ranges Of Your Wines?

We have price ranges that are ten dollars, which is our lowest price bottle of wine, to over three hundred dollars. So the great thing about our machines is you could have a higher price bottle of wine in here, fifty or sixty dollars, which if a customer has never tasted it before they're going to be a little hesitant to purchase it, right? But if they can get a one ounce taste and spend five bucks then they might say hey this is worth the price of the wine so they'll buy a bottle and they can take it home.

How Do You Select Your Wines?

So it's this really awful process of tasting a lot of wine! Every single thing in this shop I have tasted and generally a couple members of my staff will sit down and taste with me. Number one is that we don't want grocery store wine, not that there's anything wrong with the wines in the grocery store, but we want to feel a little bit more boutique-y. You're going to come here and you're going to get wines that aren't super readily available everywhere.

How Many Different Bottles Of Wine Do You Have?

I'm not exactly sure the total number but we have over 350 SKUs, so over 350 different types of wine are here. Not only is it wines that are available for purchase retail and in the machines, but we also do sparkling wines, which don't work in the machines, so we do pour sparkling wines by the glass and that's been a real huge hit.

We also have this fun little section we like to call Fantastic Finds. These are examples of great wines that you can purchase for twenty dollars or less. We have a lot of customers who just literally walk right in the door and they shop right in this section and then they leave, and that's fine too.

Do You Serve Any Food?

We are not a restaurant and don't have a kitchen, but we have a little retail section of some cheeses and meats, which can see in our cooler, so we can put together a little cheese board if you'd like.

We also have a partnership with VIN26 that's right across the street from us so on a daily basis we have a menu of appetizers and desserts, that we'll literally just run back and forth across the street and that has been a huge hit. people love that.

What Regions Do You Focus on?

People keep asking me and and we keep saying we're gonna do this passport program where we're gonna focus on different regions outside of California so that'll be coming up soon. Maybe we'll go to Oregon, maybe we'll go to Burgundy, maybe we'll bring some Georgia wines and so we'll see.

What Is The Purpose Of The Wine Stations?

The wines in the wine stations basically change on a daily basis. People get a taste of it and they're like oh this is great I'm gonna buy it. We find that once we put them in there our inventory goes down really fast.

What Is The Atmosphere Like At Deep Roots?

Bring your kids in here, come hang out you know? Roll the strollers in! We're dog friendly so you can bring the dogs. We don't have a kitchen so we're cool with you bringing your dogs in here.
